10 More Foundations for Christian Living
A foundation supports the entire structure that sits upon it.
Here are ten more foundations that we can practice to help us have longevity in our walk with God.
1 - Praise and worship
Singing songs of praise and worship changes our perspective and helps us have the right attitude in the midst of trials. God lives in our praise, and it’s how we enter His presence (Psalm 100:4).
2 - Inquire of the Lord
Ask the Lord what He wants and how He wants it done. This helps us stay in the will of God for our lives. The psalmist David prayed a simple, yet powerful prayer when he said, “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God” (Psalm 143:10).
3 - Be led by the Holy Spirit
We should be zealous for the gospel, but we should submit our evangelistic efforts to God and follow His leading. The Holy Spirit is our guide, and we are to follow His leading and keep in step with Him (Gal. 5:16).
4 - Practice mercy
It’s our duty to represent God’s love to the world as people who’ve received His love even though we don’t deserve it. Jesus said “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy” (Matt. 5:7).
5 - Serve others
We should serve well in the assignments God has given us. Jesus came to serve, not to be served (Mark 10:45).
6 - Share the gospel with others
We should seek out ways to share the gospel with those around us through conversations with people, social media posts or simply by sharing our testimony of what God has done in our life.
7 - Seek first God’s Kingdom
We can seek first God’s Kingdom through praying for others behind the scenes as well as ministering to others as led by the Spirit. Jesus tells us to seek first the Kingdom of God (Matt. 6:33).
8 - Wage a good warfare
Our battle is not against people, but against the devil and his demons (Eph. 6:12). We have to fight with the spiritual weapons God has given us, including the shield of faith, prayer and the Word of God (Eph. 6:12-18).
9 - Believe God
A great way to build faith is to listen to God’s Word every day, whether this is through an audio Bible, a Scriptural podcast or a sermon. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Rom. 10:17).
10 - Study the Word
Studying God’s Word helps us understand His ways and helps us know Him better. Knowing more about God through His Word helps us love Him better. We are told to “study to show ourselves approved unto God” (2 Tim. 2:15).
