5 Life-Changing Prayers from the Psalms

Here are 5 prayers from the Psalms that I believe will change your life if you take them to heart.

I personally pray these often and they have been such a blessing to me.

1. Psalm 139:23-24

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.

God’s Word tells us that the way everlasting is the fear of the Lord because it endures forever (Psalm 19:9). Ask Him to search your heart, know you, see if there’s any wicked way in you and lead you in the fear of the Lord that endures forever.

2. Psalm 25:4-5

Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

Verse 9 of this chapter tells us God teaches His ways to the meek. This is confirmed by lessons from Moses’ life, as he knew God’s ways not just His acts and was the meekest man on the earth (Psalm 103:7; Numbers 12:3).

3. Psalm 27:4

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in His temple.

David’s heart cry here is to focus on only one thing, to be near God and to worship and follow Him all his days. This one thing mentality is like what Jesus told Martha about Mary, saying she had chosen the good part—to be with Him, sitting at His feet and hearing His word (Luke 10). The Lord tells us this is superior to serving Him without seeking Him.

4. Psalm 143:10

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

This prayer expresses the lifestyle of Jesus. He came to do God’s will and only did and said what the Father commanded (John 6:38; 5:19; 12:49).

5. Psalm 16:11

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Ask God to show you the path of life and to fill you with the fullness of joy and the pleasures of His presence.
