Cinderella and Servant Leadership
I just finished my junior year of college. One of my classes focused on the importance of “servant leadership” and how it relates to Christ’s example.
To me, a servant-leader is the definition of true leadership.
What is Servant Leadership?
Servant leaders genuinely care about their followers holistically and see them as people who are valuable.
In biblical terms, this would be described as loving people and viewing them as those made in God’s image.
Servant leadership isn’t a well-known concept because it’s contrary to the world’s view that leaders should be domineering and prideful about their positions.
But Jesus is clear that a key characteristic of any true leader is humility.
He set these examples for us who follow Him.
Matthew 18:4
Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Mark 10:44
After all, Jesus said in Mark 10:45
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…
Cinderella
This reminds me of the 2015 live action movie ‘Cinderella’ where one of Ella’s stepsisters mockingly says to her, “No one wants a servant for a bride.”
Upon hearing this I thought to myself, That’s exactly the Bride Jesus is looking for. Jesus wants us, the Church who together make up His Bride, to be servants and take a posture of humility by submitting to Him as Lord.
The Kingdom of God is the exact opposite of the world’s system
True leaders are servants whose responsibilities and authority are granted by humility and love.
Remember, it was Ella’s humility, not her title, that won the heart of Prince Kit.
