Eyes On You

Recently during my quiet time with the Lord, I stumbled upon a passage of Scripture that I had never seen before. It is very relatable to the circumstances we go through in life, so I thought I’d share it.

Let’s jump right into 2 Chronicles 20

Some people informed Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, that his enemies were quickly approaching. When Jehoshaphat heard this, he was alarmed, so he inquired of the Lord and proclaimed a fast for all Judah. The people gathered together in the temple to seek help from the Lord.

Jehoshaphat stood up in front of the assembly and cried out to the Lord. He proclaimed God’s power, reminded God that He had given this land to His people as their inheritance and pleaded for God to judge the enemies that are coming to wage war.

The last phrase of his prayer really stuck out at me:

We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you
— 2 Chronicles 20:12

When Jehoshaphat finished praying, the Spirit came on Jahaziel and he prophesied that the people of Judah would not have to fight this battle because the Lord would deliver them. All they would have to do is go out and face them and they would see God’s deliverance.

The next day, Jehoshaphat and his people set out to face their enemies. He appointed men to praise and worship the Lord as they went out at the head of the army. As they began to sing and praise, the Lord sent ambushes against their enemies and those enemies destroyed each other.

The people of Judah won a battle through praise and worship. No weapons. No combat. No death. No wounds. Victory was achieved through praise and worship alone. Wow!

Sometimes in life, it can seem like we are powerless to defend ourselves.

Fear creeps into our hearts, but it doesn’t come alone

  • With fear comes worry

  • With worry comes shame

  • With shame comes confusion

Stand your ground

Ephesians 6:13

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
