A Sure Foundation - Isaiah 33 Commentary

Scripture

Isaiah 33:6 (NIV)

He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.

Commentary

Isaiah 33:6 speaks to the immense value of wisdom, knowledge and the fear of the Lord. This verse presents these qualities as the foundation of stability and strength, especially during times of trouble. The "stability of your times" suggests that in an ever-changing and often turbulent world, the wisdom and knowledge that come from God provide a firm anchor. "The strength of salvation" indicates that true security and deliverance come from God's salvation. Finally, "the fear of the Lord" being described as a treasure highlights that reverence for God is not just beneficial but invaluable.

Ponder how valuable wisdom, knowledge and salvation is…The fearof the Lord is the key to these treasures. The fear of the Lord is the treasure.

Prayer

"Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being the source of all wisdom and knowledge. Help me to seek Your guidance in every area of my life and to trust in Your unchanging stability. Teach me to revere You deeply and to recognize that true strength and salvation come from You alone. Forgive me for the times I have relied on my own understanding or worldly sources for security. Draw me closer to You and let Your wisdom be the foundation of my life. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Action Steps

  1. Seek God's Wisdom: Make a daily habit of reading the Bible and praying for God's wisdom and knowledge. Start with a chapter of Proverbs or Psalms each day.

  2. Evaluate Stability: Identify one area of your life where you feel particularly unstable. Write down practical steps you can take to seek God's guidance and apply His wisdom.

  3. Cultivate Reverence: Spend time in worship and reflection, focusing on the majesty and sovereignty of God. Meditate on who He is and why you love and adore Him.
