Choosing What is Better

Scripture

Luke 10:41-42 (NIV)

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”"

Reflection

Luke 10:41-42 reveals that while Martha's dedication to serving was admirable, as serving others is a fundamental aspect of discipleship, Mary's choice to sit and learn from Jesus highlights the supreme importance of spending time in His presence. It reminds us that in the busyness of life, we must not overlook the need to simply sit at the feet of Jesus, allowing His wisdom and teachings to fill our hearts.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help us balance our service and devotion to You. Grant us the wisdom to discern when to set aside our tasks and sit at Your feet to learn from Your words. May we, like Mary, choose what is better, for Your teachings are the source of life and wisdom.

Action Steps

  1. Prioritize Time with God: Dedicate moments in your day for prayer, meditation and Bible reading. Choose to be in His presence.

  2. Assess Your Priorities: Reflect on your daily responsibilities. Are there moments when you can pause to seek the presence of the Lord?

  3. Seek Wisdom: During your quiet times with God, ask for guidance and understanding. Pray for discernment in prioritizing devotion and learning from His teachings.
