5 Scripture-Based Songs for Quiet Time

1. Psalm 23

Artists: Phil Wickham, Tiffany Hudson

Listen to ‘Psalm 23’ here

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. – Psalm 23:6

This song takes us through the famous Psalm 23, reminding us of all of the beautiful promises of God contained within this psalm. The song is a soothing reminder of God’s compassion and faithfulness to us. We are reminded He will never leave us in the valley of the shadow. We are reminded of the fact that His goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives.

2. Deep Love of Jesus

Artist: Hillside Recording, Christian Singleton

Listen to ‘Deep Love of Jesus’ here

As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. - John 15:9

This gentle song is a great reminder of the love of Jesus. His love that endures our failures and stays with us in trials. His love that is constant through hills and valleys. His love that knows our worst, but still sees the best in us. Hillside Recording releases great songs for quiet time, including instrumental worship as well.

3. Poor in Spirit

Artist: Eliza King

Listen to ‘Poor in Spirit’ here

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.- Matthew 5:3

This song expresses adoration for Jesus. It expresses His beauty and His divinity. The premise of the song draws on the beatitude about the blessedness of those who are poor in spirit. We don’t need to be ashamed of our need for Jesus, and we don’t need to feel like we have to do life all on our own. I recently interviewed Eliza on the Sight, Sound and Soul Podcast, where she shared the inspiration behind this song.

4. Song of Songs

Artists: Gracie Binion, Nate Diaz

Listen to ‘Song of Songs’ here

O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, In the secret places of the cliff, Let me see your face, Let me hear your voice… - Song of Solomon 2:14

This song sweetly takes us through Song of Solomon chapters 2-5. It expresses the longing of the bride for her Beloved. It’s a duet of love and longing. What I love about it is all of the lyrics have a direct connection to the Scriptures and are word-for-word in some cases.

5. The More I Seek You

Artist: Gateway Worship, Jessie Harris

Listen to "‘The More I Seek You’ here

And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. – Luke 10:39

This song was released by Gateway Worship some years ago, but this new “chapel sessions” version recently released. This song is sung directly to Jesus, capturing the heart of Mary of Bethany who delighted to sit at Jesus’ feet and remain in His presence. It takes us to that place of devotion, the place of spending time with Him and loving Him more.

Spending quiet time with the Lord through these scripture-based songs is a wonderful way to draw closer to Him and feel His presence. Each song, with its biblical foundation and heartfelt melodies, offers a unique way to connect with God's Word and His love. As you listen, let the music wash over you, bringing peace, comfort and a renewed sense of His faithfulness. Feel free to share your favorite quiet time songs in the comments below, and may these songs bless you as you spend time in His presence.
