Tea Time with Jesus: A Personal Retreat

In this blog, I will share one of the ways I personally spend time with the Lord, hoping to provide inspiration to those on the journey of knowing Him.

Setting the Scene

I enjoy hosting tea parties with my friends, and I have extended this to my relationship with Jesus. One of my favorite ways to connect with the Lord is through a personal retreat that I call "tea time with Jesus." I set up a dedicated space with my tea set, journals, colored pens, a tablecloth and real or fake flowers. For me, this is a special way to spend time with the Lord, and I believe that if you're going to have a retreat with Jesus, you might as well go all out!

Adaptable Ideas

Keep in mind that this idea or something similar can be done with your girlfriends or women’s Bible study group and you can cater your decorations and ambiance to your liking.

What You'll Need

Here’s what I use in my retreats with Jesus:

  1. Tea Pot

    • I use a plain white porcelain tea pot. My tea pot is more for aesthetics as I have to separately boil my water and then add to my tea pot to steep my tea.

  2. Teacups and Saucers

    • I purchased a variety of teacups and saucers from local thrift stores which made them very affordable. I would recommend buying a matching set or simply picking out different ones that you like.

  3. Tea - Morning or Afternoon

    • I use tea bags instead of loose-leaf tea, but feel free to do whatever you prefer. I enjoy both black and green tea, specifically green tea with jasmine. This is my go-to, but I also love Darjeeling breakfast or afternoon tea as well.

  4. Tea - Evening

    • I suggest caffeine free chamomile or calm ginger or lavender blends.

  5. Journals

    • I love to hand write in journals and have found some very cute and affordable ones on Amazon.

  6. Pens

    • I have sets of different colored pens because I like to spice up my journaling with various colors depending on what I’m feeling at the moment.

  7. Tablecloth

    • I use a pretty white and green flowered tablecloth that was gifted to me last year.

  8. Flowers

    • I like to incorporate flowers (real or fake) as a centerpiece for my table.

Journal Prompt Ideas

Here are some fun journal prompts to help you connect heart-to-heart with the Lord:

  • The Old Testament prophecies about Jesus (Psalm 45, Isaiah, etc.)

  • Who you’ve seen the Lord to be in your life (Savior, Healer, Friend, etc.)

  • What He has spoken to you personally in the past

  • Your favorite promises He has made in His Word

  • Calligraphy with Bible verses about Jesus

  • Your heartfelt prayers to the Lord

  • Original poetry or song lyrics about Jesus

  • Your goals for going deeper with Him in thh

I hope this has provided inspiration for your retreat with Jesus, whether by yourself or with a group of friends.

Let’s steep in His presence together!
