The Cycle of Blessing
Recently, while reading Galatians chapter 3, the Holy Spirit began to unfold a revelation to me. This chapter contrasts the Law with faith, emphasizing that believers are justified by faith in Christ, not by works.
The key verse that resonated with me was Galatians 3:13, which highlights how Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”)
Christ took the punishment for our sins that we deserve, although He did nothing wrong. He became a curse so we could not only be blessed but be a blessing.
The Cycle of Blessing in Christ
1. Christ’s Blessing by God
The key verse in Galatians 3:13 highlights how Christ, through His sacrifice, became a curse for us, thus allowing us to be blessed. This is also supported by verses such as Psalm 45:2 and Revelation 5:12, which speak of God's blessings upon Christ.
Psalm 45:2:
You are fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon Your lips; Therefore God has blessed You forever.
Revelation 5:12 lists what Christ is worthy to receive:
…Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!
2. Blessings from Christ’s Sacrifice
We are now benefiting from Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, which made a way for our eternal salvation. His obedience to the Father also enabled our healing, deliverance and authority as His representatives. We would have no hope if it had not been for His obedience and sacrifice for our sake.
3. Blessed to Be a Blessing
Having received blessings through Christ's obedience and sacrifice, we are now able to bless others. This goes beyond just receiving blessings and encompasses the act of giving.
Acts 20:35 tells us we are more blessed by giving than receiving.
…And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
God told Abraham in Genesis 12:2,
I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
This means it’s greater to be a blessing than just receive a blessing.
4. The People We Bless Become Blessed
The people we bless receive a blessing from us, which makes them blessed. When we become a blessing to others we contribute to their welfare and increase in any given area.
5. Ongoing Blessings
Those who receive blessings are encouraged to bless others, It’s like a circle of never-ending blessings.
Christ became a curse for our sake, so we could become a blessing and those we bless can continue the cycle of blessing to others.
How will you be a blessing to others today?
