Speak To Your Storm
Life is full of unexpected storms that threaten to shake us. If we know how to respond to them, we will see victory even during the wind and waves.
I attended Dare to Be, a women’s event hosted by Natalie Grant and Charlotte Gambill. The message of this year’s tour was speaking to the storm.
I want to share this message because it is something that we all can relate to at some point in our lives.
Here is the passage of Scripture that Charlotte mentioned:
Mark 4:35-41 - Jesus Calms the Storm
That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
3 Key Points
1 - Jesus slept during violent storm
He was resting even though everything around Him was chaos.
This shows us that we need to rest in God’s reassuring peace when things are crazy around us.
We can be still and know that He is God even in the middle of the raging winds and crashing waves.
2 - Awoken by disciples: Jesus spoke to the storm
He set an example of what we need to do in the middle of our storms.
We need to speak the word of God over our circumstances and believe that God will fulfill His promises.
The enemy comes at us fast and hard with lie after lie, so we must be prepared to stand firm in the faith and take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
3 - Jesus relates fear to lack of faith
We need to believe that God will fulfill His promises to us.
He is faithful, and if He did it before, He will do it again.
God is in control.
Rest, trust and believe in the middle of the storm. He turns what we think are our setbacks into opportunities for growth and victory.
