The Offering - Poem

old dock pilings left in water

Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was an acceptable offering to God. He took on the punishment that we deserve, so now because of His blood we have full access to the Father. This poem is a prayer that my life would be an offering to my King out of gratitude for all He has done for me.

Picking up the pieces of my broken heart

Mending all the places that got torn apart

Tenderly Your light’s invading all the dark

Healing all the painful wounds that left a mark

You make tapestries out of tattered things

Mosaics out of shattered things

Your love is intersecting all my fears

In a bottle you collect my tears

You hold all my days and all my years

You don’t run away from the hurt

You get right down there in the dirt

Gethsemane, You cried for me

Calvary, You died for me

Now You live inside of me

My scars testify of Thee

Drowning in this hopelessness

Trying to find ways that I can cope with this

But You bring beauty from all my brokenness

Crying in Gethsemane

Then they hung You on a tree

Your blood a holy offering

You’re the God who dignifies the process

You spent six hours on the cross, yes

Your body broken on the tree

Your blood poured out for all to see

Communion with God’s enough for me

Make my life an offering

Of gratitude for all you’ve done for me

My broken pieces brought back together

Feels like a cold day with a warm sweater

Written in red

You sealed the love letter

You’re my only consistency

Wave after wave of Your grace flowing over me

You plan my destiny

You know what’s best for me

These trials are just a part of the recipe

Please make my life an offering

In response to all You’ve done for me
