What is Soul Prosperity?
Is your soul bankrupt?
We need to have more than natural resources to fulfill our calling and be effective for the kingdom of God. We need to have soul prosperity!
Our soul is our mind, will and emotions. I believe that although our spirit is renewed, our soul is in the process of becoming more like Christ, which takes participation on our part. Our soul is where the enemy fights us.
Often, our soul is the real battleground in spiritual warfare. Our mind can be assailed with negative and destructive thoughts, our emotions can be in chaos due to past or present traumas, eventually leading our will to be paralyzed, when suddenly we find ourselves not wanting to move forward in the will of God for our lives or even not knowing how to move forward in life at all.
We can try to hide in shame. We can pretend like we never have any soul issues. But in reality, everyone needs some soul healing at some time or another. Can I get an “amen” here?!
I’ve experienced enough of this myself to know that we need to ask God for soul prosperity. Often the health of our soul gets overlooked, because unlike our bodies, we can’t always see or feel the condition of our soul because we are so conditioned to stuff things deep down. Some of us don’t even realize how many wounds we carry. (No shame, I’ve been there.)
To me, soul prosperity is about a healthy mind, healthy emotions and a will that is fully surrendered to God.
Check out this verse,
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” (3 John 2).
Soul prosperity provides us the ability to bless others and expand the Kingdom of God, because we are rich. We are rich in what will last forever: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, humility, all the virtues of God.
Here is some evidence of soul prosperity:
We are easily able to forgive others who hurt us.
We are easily enthusiastic about serving others, looking for ways to bless them.
We are easily able to live with an eternal perspective, knowing that we have a short time on earth to impact this world with the gospel, full of enthusiasm and passion for God.
We are easily able to love God with all our soul, able to express our love with our emotions, including joy and tears.
We are more selfless, because we are not living in deficit, we are living in surplus.
We are full of creativity and innovative ideas from the Holy Spirit.
But how do we actually get there?
The first step to soul prosperity is receiving God’s healing and deliverance from our emotional and mental trauma. This can look like taking all the hurtful and negative words spoken over us by others (or by ourselves) and laying those down before Him to exchange them for His life-giving truth over us.
I believe the inner healing journey can look different for each person. Maybe it’s Christian counseling or therapy. Maybe it’s lots of prayer and repentance. Maybe it’s good Christian mentors or friends that help us go farther in Christ, inspiring us to move forward. Maybe it’s taking that first step to choose to forgive someone who deeply hurt us, releasing all bitterness and choosing to pray for them and wish them well.
For me personally, it was in my personal prayer time over many years that the Lord started to tangibly evict trauma and strongholds out of my soul. I would literally hear or feel things come off and out of my mind, heart and emotions. I’m right there with you in the journey of soul restoration and soul prosperity!
I now understand what king David was talking about in the famous passage of Psalm 23 where he wrote,
“He restores my soul…” (Psalm 23:3).
God was excavating trauma from my soul and bringing it to the surface to set me free.
And He will do the same for you!
It might take some time, even many years, but if you intentionally and proactively seek God for the healing and restoration of your soul, you will find true soul prosperity.
Jesus gave His life for us to experience abundant life, including soul prosperity. He wants us walking in wholeness. He wants us walking in abundance so we can effectively bless others.
Think about it: we can’t really bless others if we are always living in bondages of mental, emotional and spiritual poverty.
We don’t take anything with us to Heaven, all we have is the nonmaterial riches of love, mercy, peace, humility, etc.
Will you join me on the journey of soul prosperity?
Ask God to restore your soul so you can be a greater blessing to others!
