Greater Glory - Haggai 2

Scripture

Haggai 2:9 (NIV)

The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.

Reflection

Haggai 2:9 is a powerful promise from God to the people of Israel during the rebuilding of the temple. The people were disheartened because the new temple seemed insignificant compared to Solomon’s grand structure. However, God assures them that the glory of the new temple will surpass that of the former. This promise emphasizes God’s future plans and the coming of a greater glory that would fill the new temple.

This verse also points to the greater glroy we have access to in Christ, as we collectively are the temple of God. It foreshadows the superior glory of the New Covenant which God made with us through Christ’s blood. In our lives, we might face situations where our current efforts seem small or insignificant compared to previous successes. However, God’s promise assures us that He can bring about a greater glory through our current work. It calls us to have faith in His overarching plan and to find peace in knowing that His presence and blessings are with us.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the promise that the glory of the latter house will be greater than the former. Help us to trust in Your plans, even when our present efforts seem small or insignificant. Remind us that You see beyond our immediate circumstances and that Your purposes will prevail.

Give us the faith to believe that You can bring about a greater glory through our lives. Help us to remain steadfast in our work and to find peace in Your presence. Forgive us for the times we have doubted Your plans and have been discouraged by appearances. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Action Steps

  1. Trust in God’s Vision: Identify areas in your life where you feel your efforts are insignificant. Pray for the ability to see these areas through God’s perspective and trust in His greater plan.

  2. Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate small achievements in your life as steps towards God’s greater glory. Thank God for His guidance and presence in these moments.

  3. Encourage Others: Share the promise of Haggai 2:9 with someone who might feel discouraged. Offer them support and remind them of God’s ability to bring about a greater glory.
