Persistent Faith in Matthew 15:21-28

Scripture

Matthew 15:28 (NIV)

Then Jesus said to her, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted." And her daughter was healed at that moment.

Reflection

In Matthew 15:21-28, we encounter the Canaanite woman who approaches Jesus with a desperate plea to heal her demon-possessed daughter. Despite being a Gentile and initially met with silence and seemingly harsh words, she persists in her plea. Her response to Jesus' words to her is marked by humility and unwavering faith. She acknowledges her unworthiness but confidently believes in Jesus' power and mercy. Jesus recognizes her great faith, which was demonstrated by her honor for Him and grants her request, healing her daughter instantly.

This passage teaches us about the power of persistent faith. The Canaanite woman's story encourages us to approach God with boldness, humility and perseverance, even when circumstances seem discouraging. It also reminds us that God's grace extends beyond cultural boundaries and He responds to genuine faith.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your boundless mercy and grace. Help us to come to You with the same bold and humble faith as the Canaanite woman. Strengthen our trust in Your goodness and power, even when we face silence or challenges. May we persist in prayer and believe in Your willingness to help us. Grant us the courage to approach You with our needs, confident in Your love and compassion. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Action Steps

  1. Reflect on Your Faith: Take a moment to evaluate your own faith. Are there areas in your life where you need to trust God more deeply?

  2. Persistent Prayer: Identify a specific need or challenge you are facing. Commit to bringing this before God in persistent prayer, trusting in His timing and wil

  3. Encourage Others: Share the story of the Canaanite woman's faith with someone who might be struggling in their faith journey. Encourage them to persist in seeking God's help and to trust in His compassion
