On our own we may feel empty and lacking. But with Christ, we inherit His kingdom and blessings! We become rich in the things that truly matter. Things like love, joy, peace, comfort and hope. What amazing gifts He has to offer!

This Beatitude shows God’s heart for those who seek Him and recognize their spiritual need.

Humility and Spiritual Poverty

Jesus Himself modeled humility and spiritual poverty so well. Though He was God in the flesh, He lived in such a humble way - no material possessions to His name, no place to lay His head. And yet, because He recognized His role as Savior who relied fully on the Father, Jesus exemplified being “poor in spirit.”

God does not ask us to have everything together before we come to Him. The disciples were not royalty or members of the religious elite, yet God used them in ways they could never accomplish alone.
