25 Bible Verses About Being Still

Being still might seem like a foreign concept in our fast paced world. We are constantly surrounded by noise, notifications and never ending to do lists. But it is in the moments of stillness that we often hear God's voice most clearly and find the peace our souls desperately need.

I learned this lesson in a way I never expected. My life began with anything but stillness. I was born fourteen weeks premature weighing just one pound and thirteen ounces. I spent 145 days in the NICU surrounded by the constant beeping of monitors and the hurried footsteps of nurses and doctors fighting to keep me alive. I survived multiple code blues, two life threatening infections and three major eye surgeries before I was six months old. My vision was affected by Retinopathy of Prematurity and what started as a fragile beginning became a lifelong journey of learning to trust God in the uncertainty.

For years, I operated in survival mode. I pushed myself to keep up with my peers, to prove that my disability would not define me. I participated in dance, gymnastics, track, swim, choir and marching band. I graduated summa cum laude and earned leadership roles I never imagined. But somewhere along the way I forgot how to be still. I equated stillness with falling behind. Rest felt like weakness. And the idea of slowing down to simply be with God seemed like a luxury I could not afford.

Then came a season when God brought everything to a halt. It was not dramatic or sudden but it was undeniable. I felt exhausted in a way that sleep could not fix. My soul was weary from striving and I realized I had been running on empty for far too long.

I began to learn that being still was not about doing nothing. It was about surrendering control. It was about laying down my need to prove myself and simply resting in the truth that God is God and I am not. He did not need my hustle to accomplish His purposes. He wanted my presence. He wanted my trust. He wanted me to stop striving long enough to remember that He had been fighting for me all along.

If you find yourself in a season of chaos or exhaustion or relentless busyness, I want to invite you to pause. These 25 verses are not just words on a page. They are invitations from a loving Father who wants to meet you in the quiet places. He is not asking you to have it all together. He is simply asking you to be still and let Him be who He has always been.
