25 Bible Verses About Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God

By Marisa D'Amore ·

Title card reading 25 Bible Verses About Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God over a wooden table at dawn, an open Bible, a leather belt, work boots, an oil lamp, and a cutting board leaning like a shield.

You sit down to pray and an accusing sentence arrives before the amen. You obeyed God, then felt smaller by evening. Sleep comes late, and the first thought is that you are losing a fight you cannot photograph.

Scripture talks about that kind of pressure. It talks about wrestling in heavenly places, a roaring lion, fiery darts, a belt of truth, a shield of faith. These 25 Bible verses about spiritual warfare and the Armor of God stay with the fight itself, and with the gear God puts on His people.

If the pull in front of you is a habit you already know how to name, start with temptation and resisting sin. For a longer walk through a tired mind, trauma, and an unseen battle, whether spiritual warfare is real is the place.

Bible Verses About Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God

1. Ephesians 6:10 — Strong in His Might

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

The letter is almost over, and the instruction is still “finally.” Strength sits in the Lord, in the might that belongs to Him. If your own resolve ran out before breakfast, the command still has somewhere to land.

2. Ephesians 6:11 — The Whole Armor, Against Wiles

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Wiles. Schemes with patience. The assignment is to put on armor God supplies, the whole of it, so you can stand. One piece left in the drawer is how a clever lie finds the gap.

3. Ephesians 6:12 — The Wrestling You Cannot See

For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

The coworker, the sibling, the comment thread: flesh and blood is what you can point at. The wrestling in this sentence goes after principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, spiritual forces in heavenly places. Pray for the person in front of you. Fight the unseen part on your knees.

4. Ephesians 6:13 — Having Done All, to Stand

Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

An evil day comes. The end of the sentence is still standing. Put the armor on before that day arrives, then do what you can, and remain on your feet.

5. Ephesians 6:14 — Truth at the Waist

Stand therefore, having the utility belt of truth buckled around your waist, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

A belt keeps the rest of the gear from sliding. Truth goes around the middle of you, where dread likes to sit. Righteousness covers the chest: Christ’s, received, worn while you stand. Say the true sentence out loud when a false one has been looping since 2 a.m.

6. Ephesians 6:15 — Feet Fitted with Peace

and having fitted your feet with the preparation of the Good News of peace,

Shoes for a fight, and the news they carry is peace. Ready feet walk into a tense kitchen without needing to win the human argument. The gospel has already made peace with God. You can enter the room prepared to stand in that.

7. Ephesians 6:16 — The Shield for Fiery Darts

above all, taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one.

Darts, and they burn. Faith is what you take up so those darts go out. A sudden picture of failure, a verse twisted against you, a panic that God has stepped back: lift the shield. Trust what He has said more than the heat of the thought.

8. Ephesians 6:17 — Helmet and Sword

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

Take them. Salvation covers the head when shame tries to live in your thinking. The Spirit’s sword is the word of God, a sentence you can actually speak. Keep one verse where you can reach it at night.

9. Ephesians 6:18 — Prayer for All the Saints

with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit, and being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints.

Armor on, and still praying. All times. Watchful. For all the saints, including the ones who will never know you stayed up. Text one believer you trust and ask them to pray, then pray for someone else’s fight while you are in yours.

10. 2 Corinthians 10:4 — Weapons Mighty Before God

for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds,

Flesh-level tools stay small here. The weapons that throw down strongholds are mighty before God: prayer, truth, obedience, the Word. Bring the entrenched lie to those weapons.

11. 2 Corinthians 10:5 — Thoughts Taken Captive

throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

A thought can sit high, as if it were the last word on God. Capture it. Walk it to Christ and ask whether it obeys Him. Set the accusing sentence down at His feet.

12. 1 Peter 5:8-9 — A Lion, and Company

Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings.

A roar is supposed to freeze you. Stay awake. Withstand him in faith. Other believers, in other houses, are in the same sufferings. Other kitchens had the same late hour.

13. James 4:7 — Subject to God, Then Resist

Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Submit first. Then resist. The fleeing comes after both. If you have been swinging at darkness while ignoring a clear command, start with the command. Resistance without surrender leaves you loud and still open.

14. 1 John 4:4 — Greater Is He in You

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.

Little children. Already of God. Already overcomers, because of who lives in you. Measure the night against Him, the One in you, greater than what is in the world.

15. Colossians 2:15 — Stripped and Shown

Having stripped the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

The cross is the “it.” He stripped them, made a show of them, triumphed. The powers you feel pressing on a Monday already lost in public. Stand in a victory older than this week’s accusation.

16. Revelation 12:11 — Blood, and a Word

They overcame him because of the Lamb’s blood, and because of the word of their testimony. They didn’t love their life, even to death.

The Lamb’s blood first. Then the word of their testimony. They overcame him that way. If you need a sentence tonight, start with what the Lamb did, then say what you have seen Him do in you, even if your voice shakes.

17. Isaiah 54:17 — No Weapon Will Prevail

No weapon that is formed against you will prevail; and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the LORD’s servants, and their righteousness is of me,” says the LORD.

Weapons form. Tongues rise. The heritage of the LORD’s servants is that those weapons do not get the last word, and the righteousness in the fight is His. Bring the formed thing, and the gossip, to the One who said this.

18. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 — He Will Guard You

But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.

Faithful. He establishes. He guards you from the evil one. Ask Him to do the guarding while you sleep, and to establish the part of you that keeps sliding.

19. Romans 8:37 — More Than Conquerors

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

In all these things: the list just behind this line includes trouble, persecution, famine, sword. More than conquerors, through Him who loved us. Love is the through-line of the win. Stay near that love when the “these things” are loud.

20. John 16:33 — He Has Overcome the World

I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world.”

Trouble in the world. Peace in Him. He has already overcome. Cheer up, in His mouth, is courage with a finished fight behind it. Take the peace where He located it: in Me.

21. Matthew 4:4 — It Is Written

But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God’s mouth.’”

Forty days hungry, and He answered with a sentence already on the page. The devil had words too. Jesus used Scripture in context, from Deuteronomy, about living by what God speaks. When a twisted verse shows up in your head, open the chapter and read what is actually written.

22. Hebrews 4:12 — Living, Active, Sharp

For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Living. Active. Sharp enough to divide what you cannot sort: soul and spirit, thought and intention. Let it cut the accusing knot. Read slowly until a line stays, then pray that line back.

23. 2 Timothy 1:7 — Power, Love, Self-Control

For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

What God gave: power, love, self-control. Fear can still knock. The spirit He gave you has another character. Receive the gift again in the hour the knock is loudest, and let love keep the power from turning harsh.

24. Psalm 18:2 — Rock, Fortress, Shield

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

Rock. Fortress. Deliverer. Refuge. Shield. Horn. High tower. David stacks the pictures for a chase that needed every one of them. Pick the one that fits this hour and hide there on purpose.

25. 1 Corinthians 15:57 — Thanks for the Victory

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

God gives the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank Him for that gift, then put the armor on for the day still in front of you.

When the Night Feels Like a Fight

Put on the whole armor of God, the way Ephesians 6 says. Wear every piece together.

Say one written sentence the way Jesus did in Matthew 4:4.

Take a thought captive, 2 Corinthians 10:5, and walk it to Christ.

Ask another believer to pray, the way Ephesians 6:18 keeps requests moving among the family.

If the pressure is also a wound that will not settle, what the Bible says about trauma walks that ground. If you need courage for a visible hard thing, verses about courage and bravery sit nearby. If fear is about safety in this world, start with protection and safety.

A Prayer for the Unseen Fight

Father, You see the person reading this in the hour the accusation is loud. Establish them. Guard them from the evil one. Jesus, You stripped the powers at the cross. Clothe this believer with truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and Your Word. Holy Spirit, help them pray and stay watchful. Give them one verse they can speak. Keep them standing. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is spiritual warfare in the Bible?

Ephesians 6:12 describes wrestling against principalities, powers, and spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places. 1 Peter 5:8-9 shows an adversary who prowls, and a church that withstands him in faith. The fight is real, and Jesus has already triumphed over the powers, as Colossians 2:15 says.

What is the armor of God?

Ephesians 6:14-18 lists it: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet fitted with the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit (the word of God), and prayer. God supplies it. You put it on.

How do I put on the armor of God?

Start with the list in order. Speak truth where a lie has been sitting. Receive Christ’s righteousness instead of arguing your record. Walk into the next room as someone at peace with God. Lift faith against the dart. Remember you are saved. Read a verse out loud. Pray for other believers. That is the putting on.

What if the attack is mostly in my thoughts?

2 Corinthians 10:5 is for that: throw down what exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bring the thought into captivity to Christ’s obedience. Open the passage the thought claimed to quote. If you also need sleep, food, or a counselor, use those. Wisdom can hold both.

Did Jesus already win this fight?

Colossians 2:15, John 16:33, and 1 Corinthians 15:57 all put the victory in His hands: the cross, His word that He has overcome the world, thanks to God who gives the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. You still stand. You stand in something finished.
